InSitu Sub-Atomic View Platform // Redding, CT

The heroic platform -- a dynamic piece of functional art -- is a focal point in the meadow at InSitu. The elongated pyramid is nearly 20 feet tall and sits precariously on its point. Stairs up to an interior floor give the visitor a striking 360 degree view of the garden. The weathering steel was chosen for its earthen color and texture. The platform floats in billowing masses of switch grass and golden rods. The circular motif cuts in the panels is a form from the Large Hadron Collider and is an image of colliding atomic particles. These basic elements of matter and the circular patterns are a beautiful counterpoint to the strong, linear form of the inverted pyramid. Interior lighting makes the piece striking after dark. This prominent piece captures the attention of visitors to the garden.
